December 31, 2012


This week signals the end of the festive holidays and the onset of yet another dreary winter..Brrr. I would hate winter if it weren’t for the fabulous winter food we crave.  As I write this the aroma of a big old pot of gumbo wafts over the transom.  Comfort food at its best. I’m thinking in the next few weeks a pot roast or perhaps a sauerbraten.  I’m braising a chicken this weekend which should be good.  But then there is chicken with dumplings.  And simple things like meatloafs and pastas (a classic lasagna with ragu??? ) Big breakfasts that stick to your ribs and hot biscuits (in my old age I finally got the hang of these with the use of roughly 50% AP and 50% bread flour.)  How about a big pot of Russian Borscht and sour cream/dill  with black bread and butter. 

If I keep cooking like this it will soon be spring….
