MENU FOR THE WEEK OF MAY 20, 2013

This week the weather has been nuts.  Last week we had temps in the high 80s and we were busy checking the AC.  This week it’s been in the 30’s at night with several days only in the 40’s.  To  hell with the A/C – we needed the furnace.  North of here they had snow.  Up in New England several feet – and they are skiing  once again this weekend. Having nearly a 50 degree swing in the temperature is not good for either the body or the soul…..

MENU FOR THE WEEK OF MAY 13, 2013

I had one ticket on the big Mega Lotto for last night. $1 for a chance to win $190 million.  Cash like that could come in handy.  And I lucked out.  I had one of the numbers and the mega thing.

Worth $3 it is…..

Spring is still playing with us.  Unseasonal cold.  Rain.  Then two spectacular spring days.  Then it’s cold and the whole rotation starts all over again.  Hopefully this week we will stay  well above frost (not so last week).  So I have most of my stuff in or at least ready to go.

At this point we are already eating my lettuces and using my fresh herbs.   Both are a pleasure. I just wish we could do a real garden, but alas.  It’s people 0 woodchucks 1000.  Not even worth the effort anymore….

May 6, 2013

MENU FOR THE WEEK OF MAY 6, 2013

It would appear that we have gone from The Endless Winter to the  Eternal Monsoon Season.  On the other hand, everything has that bright new green look.  And when it does stop raining, the ground is so saturated  it makes the Spring weeding a  hell of a lot easier.

Warner has finished putting the water stain on the deck and  we have  pretty much arranged the pots.  Last frost date is this Weds., so I’ll start collecting seedlings in the  next few days. Main crop tomatoes, grape tomatoes, Italian parsley (lots), basil.  I have my rosemary, sage and mint.  Am looking for a decent sized thyme.

Pricing stuff  this week I found geraniums locally costing $4-$5 a pop. Ouch.  I did, however, find that Home Depot has smaller plants for $1.95.  Guess where I am going for those…
