MENU FOR THE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 17, 2012

Fall is upon us.  We did have one bad rain storm this week which engulfed the unpicked cherry tomatoes.   I don’t think we’ll see any more this season.  But it was a good run.

Still working on clearing out the leftovers section of the freezer. It is so easy to have dinner already done.  All I need is a starch and a salad.  And yes, I’m still cooking rice.  I will take the precaution of rinsing it beforehand, but I can’t imagine that it is going to do real damage to adults who eat a reasonably balanced diet.  Do need to be using more barley and quinoa and the like.  I keep them in the pantry – I just tend to forget about them.  Creatures of habit…

We are in the throes of planning an upcoming party.  Getting the house in order, washing the curtains, rehanging pictures and the like.   And planning the menu.  That’s the fun part.  What we are thinking of is a cardiologist’s dream (as in Oh Goody!  More business!) But when one entertains – what the hell.  Will have some healthy alternatives, however, for our friends and family with diabetes.

The key, I think, is (1) organization and (2) preparation.  As they say at the CIA, Preparation Is Everything.  I’ve already got five appetizers in the freezer in addition to having sausages and cheeses on hand.  Also, three ice creams.  And one entrée.  As we get closer to the date, I’ll continue to add on to this collection leaving very little preparation a la minute. I ‘ll have finalized the menu and you’ll see it here next week.  We’re figuring about 30 people – give or take.  It’s a little hard to tell as any number of folk have not rsvp-ed….One of my pet peeves…
