MENU FOR THE WEEK OF JULY 23, 2012

This past week a dear friend of ours lost his mother.  The memorial service was over the weekend.  One of the good things about being a serious cook, is that  at times such as these, there is something we can do to help.

In the meantime, tomatoes on the deck are prospering.  One problem is that several of the plants I bought I thought were heirloom, are in fact, cherry tomatoes.  We are going to soon have a glut of yellow and orange cherry tomatoes.  Fortunately, I am finding lots of recipes on Epicurious. com for them. Pasta sauces, pickles – etc.  Stay tuned.

MENU FOR THE WEEK OF JULY 16, 2012
Last week I picked up a new cookbook titled The Farm.   In the forward Ruth Reichl  describes how the author, a test kitchen chef at Gourmet Magazine, showed up at the office one Monday with Woodchuck Pate. It seems that one woodchuck was getting into his garden, and he took necessary action…. Given our woodchuck problems it seemed like a lovely solution.  And, having the nerve to serve it up to Ruth Reichl….   Alas, he does not include this recipe in the  volume.  But he goes give one for Woodchuck  Cacciatore…Good  man

Speaking of property pests, the gas/electric guy was around to read meters today.  Given the three figure temps we’ve been having, I shudder to think what his charges will be.  Perhaps he’d make a lovely pate as well.
